Neurodiversity and mental health trainings in community and inpatient settings
Neurodiversity-Informed Mental Health Training
I’m Dr. Georgia Pavlopoulou, deeply committed to creating spaces where neurodivergent people feel seen, heard, and respected.
I serve as the Deputy Programme Director for the Children and Young People’s Psychological Therapies at UCL and Anna Freud, and I also lead the postgraduate programmes in Psychological Therapies for Autism and Learning Disability. I currently lead the NHS National Autism Trainer Programme, delivered by Anna Freud in partnership with AT-Autism (2021–2025).
At Anna Freud, I work with a brilliant team of autistic and ADHD trainers and clinicians to deliver bespoke, on-demand training across child, adolescent, and adult mental health services. Together, we address intersectional issues including learning disabilities, dyspraxia, race, culture, and LGBTQ+ identities.
I specialise in co-producing and co-delivering national curricula and international workshops that combine research-based insight with the lived experience of neurodivergent experts. Every training I offer is developed collaboratively, ensuring that it is both meaningful and practically useful.
My work has been recognised by the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH), who awarded me the David Cottrell Award for outstanding contributions to professional training in the UK. In 2024, I was honoured to receive the Inclusion Award from University College London for innovation in mental health research and teaching.
I create reflective, safe, and empowering learning environments where professionals can:
-
Understand the barriers autistic and neurodivergent people face across community and inpatient settings
-
Explore ways to adopt experience-sensitive, participatory approaches to care
-
Gain practical strategies for neurodivergence-informed multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary practice
-
Promote neuroaffirming, strengths-based perspectives in clinical and educational contexts
I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible partners — including the Anna Freud Centre — to co-design and deliver national and international training. A recent example is the National Autism Trainer Programme (NATP), a free, NHS-funded programme now being rolled out across England to support workforce development in mental health settings.
If you’re interested in bespoke training for your team focused on the intersections of neurodivergence and mental health — including topics such as depression, suicidality, anxiety, psychosis or trauma — I’d love to hear from you.
What's new? Neurodiversity, Leadership and Organisational Management
This multimodal training experience features co-produced content, including compelling videos, case studies and vignettes—all designed to inspire meaningful discussion and reflection. Grounded in research evidence and lived experience, the training provides an engaging, evidence-based learning journey.
Throughout the sessions, you’ll engage in group discussions to explore diverse roles, identify common challenges, and gain deeper insight into the needs of those you support. The training will introduce key theoretical frameworks to guide your development.
Crucially, the course will also encourage empathy by prompting reflection on how your own values, beliefs, and behaviours influence your interactions with others.
